Softball Game Preview: Miller Falcons vs. Millersport Lakers

The Miller Falcons will take on the Millersport Lakers at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Miller has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Millersport will arrive with four straight wins.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Miller took on Grove City Christian on Monday. The Falcons lost 19-2 to the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Millersport made easy work of Berne Union on Wednesday and carried off a 16-5 victory. Considering the Lakers have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kendyl Bonkowski made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Millersport let Claire Haney and Ginny Worstall run wild. Haney went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Worstall scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those two doubles gave Haney a new career-high. Ava Blevins was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Millersport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berne Union only posted a batting average of .320.

Miller's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Millersport, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Everything went Miller's way against Millersport when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Miller made off with an 8-2 victory. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
