Softball Recap: Melrose-Mindoro Drops Season-High Score on Independence/Gilmanton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Melrose-Mindoro). They were the clear victors by an 18-4 margin over the Independence/Gilmanton Indees on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Madeline Frauenkron was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Cooper Zeman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Melrose-Mindoro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher in three consecutive games.

Melrose-Mindoro has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Independence/Gilmanton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.

Looking ahead, Melrose-Mindoro will be playing in front of their home fans against Blair-Taylor at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Independence/Gilmanton, they will face off against Arcadia at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
