Basketball Recap: Independence Takes a Loss

If Independence was feeling good fresh off their 39-12 takedown of Manchester last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Independence Blue Devils were outmatched by the Trinity Trojans and fell 60-23. The loss continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now lost four in a row.

Leading Trinity to victory were Kendall Hughes and Iniya Charlton. Hughes went 5 of 9 en route to 15 points, while Charlton posted 13 points along with five boards and three steals. Charlton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 37 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jaila Wiggins, who put up six points and three steals.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Trinity, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Independence will head out to square off against Cuyahoga Heights at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Trinity, they will host Independence at 6:15 p.m. on February 3rd.
