Baseball Game Preview: Cullman Bearcats vs. Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils

For the second straight game, Cullman will face off against Mortimer Jordan. The Bearcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cullman is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Last Tuesday, Cullman sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Mortimer Jordan.

For Mortimer Jordan's part, Jackson Woodruff was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. Woodruff has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mortimer Jordan saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Funderburk, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Funderburk is becoming a predictor of the Blue Devils' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 12-13 when he doesn't).

Cullman's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-11. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Mortimer Jordan, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-15.
