Baseball Game Preview: St. John XXIII Lions vs. Lumberton Raiders

The St. John XXIII Lions will take on the Lumberton Raiders in a tournament on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (St. John XXIII: 3.8, Lumberton: 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Lions on Tuesday. Everything went St. John XXIII's way against Legacy Prep Christian Academy as St. John XXIII made off with a 7-1 victory. Seven seems to be a good number for St. John XXIII as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Meanwhile, Lumberton is still undefeated this season after their matchup against Warren on Thursday, but Warren came as close as anyone has to beating them. Lumberton came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Warren. The four-run effort marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Aiden Marshall was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Marshall was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run.

Marshall wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Steininger, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for St. John XXIII and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs over those games. As for Lumberton, their record is now 7-0.
