Softball Game Preview: Shorecrest Scots vs. Mountlake Terrace Hawks

Shorecrest is 1-9 against Mountlake Terrace since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Shorecrest will be playing in front of their home fans against Mountlake Terrace at 6:30 p.m. Shorecrest has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Shorecrest is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They lost 12-5 to Marysville Getchell. The contest marked the Scots' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Lyla Ann Taing made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Riu Hanrahan, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Meanwhile, Mountlake Terrace fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Meadowdale on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 4-3.

Amaya Johnson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Johnson wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evie Snow, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Mountlake Terrace's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Shorecrest, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Shorecrest has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .524. However, it's not like Mountlake Terrace struggles in that department as they've averaged .486. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
