Preview: Calumet Christian Patriots vs. Hammond Baptist Swordsmen
Calumet Christian and Hammond Baptist are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Calumet Christian Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Hammond Baptist Swordsmen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Calumet Christian has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Hammond Baptist will arrive with seven straight wins.
Calumet Christian struggled with assists on Tuesday (HomeSchool Resource Center had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Calumet Christian was outmatched by HomeSchool Resource Center at home and fell 69-31. Calumet Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-12.
Calumet Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brad Nymeyer, who scored eight points along with five rebounds, and Kolton Foutz who scored eight points. Michael Clayton was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hammond Baptist is ranked highly in their home state, and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Bloomfield Christian School. Hammond Baptist put the hurt on Bloomfield Christian School with a sharp 69-49 victory. Hammond Baptist might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three matches by 20 points or more this season.
Calumet Christian now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Hammond Baptist, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.
Calumet Christian came up short against Hammond Baptist in their previous meeting back in November, falling 51-43. Can Calumet Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
