The Leavitt Hornets will venture away from home to take on the Erskine Academy Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Erskine Academy will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Leavitt extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Hornets' pitcher stepped up to hand Gardiner a 10-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Hornets have won by exactly ten runs.
Hailey Cyr was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Cyr was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reese Bilodeau, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kaeley Tremblay, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Leavitt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gardiner only managed four hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Erskine Academy). Everything went their way against Morse on Wednesday as they made off with a 16-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Shipbuilders: they've now won three in a row.
Like Leavitt, Erskine Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Kelsie Dunn. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Dunn has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Erskine Academy got a massive performance out of Bryana Barrett, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those RBI were Barrett's first of the season. Kylie Bellows was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Leavitt's record is now 3-0. As for Erskine Academy, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-2.
Erskine Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leavitt has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Erskine Academy, though, as they've been averaging 10.8 hits. Given Leavitt's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Leavitt was able to grind out a solid victory over Erskine Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 6-2. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
