Basketball Game Preview: Firth Cougars vs. Malad Dragons

The Firth Cougars will face off against the Malad Dragons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Firth is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Bear Lake on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Firth had to suffer through a 61-34 loss at the hands of Bear Lake. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bears: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite their defeat, Firth saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Shelbie Perry, who posted 11 points, was perhaps the best of all. Perry continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Adyson Park was another key player, putting up eight points.

Meanwhile, Malad entered their tilt with Soda Springs on Friday with 13 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 14. They were the clear victor by a 54-33 margin over the Cardinals. The Dragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

Malad's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Firth, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

Firth suffered a grim 76-50 defeat to Malad in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Firth was down 44-22.
