Softball Game Preview: Mt. Blue Cougars vs. Lawrence Bulldogs

The Mt. Blue Cougars will head out to take on the Lawrence Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Mt. Blue will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Messalonskee, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Eagles 11-10. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Lawrence hadn't done well against Nokomis recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Bulldogs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Warriors, sneaking past 10-9. The win was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won four matches in a row.

Lawrence pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Blue, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.

Mt. Blue beat Lawrence 7-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
