Basketball Recap: Miami-Yoder Comes Up Short

Miami-Yoder dropped to 10-6 on Tuesday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They were outmatched by the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates and fell 57-16. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Buffaloes have suffered since January 16th.

When it comes to explaining why Miami-Yoder lost, don't look at Mindy Quintana-Vazquez. Despite the final result, she posted eight points. Quintana-Vazquez is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, they pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval was led to victory by Amy James and Kazlei Vaughn. James scored 15 points and seven steals, while Vaughn shot 50% from the field en route to 10 points and seven steals. James is becoming a predictor of the Pirates' success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 5-1 (and 4-6 when she doesn't). Rylee Corn was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Miami-Yoder will venture away from home to square off against Evangel Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, they will head out to take on Deer Trail at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
