Volleyball Recap: East Lawrence Eagles vs. Russellville Golden Tigers
East Lawrence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Russellville Golden Tigers. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
East Lawrence was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Russellville work for it, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 20-25, 15-10.
Lauren Garner paced East Lawrence's offense, picking up seven kills. Garner got some help from Cheyenne Hackett and her 13 assists. Macey Austin controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
East Lawrence's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Russellville, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Coincidentally, East Lawrence and Russellville will both be playing Marion County the next time they take the court. The Eagles will host the Red Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Golden Tigers will play them later in the day, at 6:30 p.m.
