Basketball Recap: Sumter County Comes Up Short

Sumter County suffered their closest defeat since December 13, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Spencer Greenwave by a score of 46-44. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Greenwave this season, with their most recent loss being a 41-38 defeat back in January.

It was another big night for Kerry Griffin, who went 7-for-17 en route to 27 points along with five boards and four steals for Spencer. Those 27 points gave Griffin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Demarcus Horne, who posted four points and six assists.

Sumter County's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Spencer, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 19-6.

Sumter County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Spencer, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 71-50 defeat against Carver on the 15th.
