Football Game Preview: Alexander Spartans vs. Vinton County Vikings

Alexander is 2-8 against Vinton County since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Vinton County took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Alexander, who comes in off a win.

Alexander took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Everything went their way against Wellston as they made off with a 46-20 win. Considering the Spartans have won three contests by more than 25 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexander's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nolan Jenkins led the charge by rushing for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Jewell, who threw for 92 yards and three TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Alexander was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 201 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Vinton County's offense. They were outmatched by Athens and fell 52-0. Vikings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Bulldogs since Friday.

Alexander now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Vinton County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
