Basketball Recap: Christian Brothers' Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Christian Brothers hadn't done well against Rio Americano recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Christian Brothers Falcons came out on top against the Rio Americano Raiders by a score of 57-47. Winning may never get old, but the Falcons sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Christian Brothers had a senior duo take command as Stephan Hewitt almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds and Daniel Powers went 5 for 7 en route to 15 points along with eight boards and six assists. Hewitt has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ezra Rielly, who posted five points.

Christian Brothers smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rio Americano only pulled down two offensive rebounds.

Despite the loss, Rio Americano still got an impressive performance from Ian Engh, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Devenecia, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Christian Brothers has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. As for Rio Americano, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-8 record this season.

Christian Brothers will welcome Inderkum at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Inderkum will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Christian Brothers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rio Americano, they will head out on the road to challenge Vista del Lago at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Rio Americano is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season.
