Volleyball Preview: Firelands Falcons vs. Ravenna Ravens

After both having extra time off, the Firelands Falcons and the Ravenna Ravens will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Firelands has 12 straight victories, Ravenna has 19 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

If Brookside wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Firelands, they should've done a better job of containing Stella Frederick. The Falcons put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 3-0 win on Thursday for which the team can thank Frederick, who had 29 digs and five aces. She has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last five times she's played.

One reason for the win was Firelands' just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-17, 25-10.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Ravenna duked it out with Field on Thursday. The Ravens lost 3-0 to the Falcons.

The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-13.

Firelands will have to contain Kasey Sterba as she made an impact in Ravenna's last game. She had nine digs and one assist. Charleigh Wegner also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Firelands' victory bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Ravenna, their loss dropped their record down to 1-21.
