Basketball Recap: Kalama Comes Up Short

Kalama lost against Seton Catholic on January 10th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Kalama Chinooks took a blow against the Seton Catholic Cougars, falling 83-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Chinooks have suffered since January 31, 2024.

Kalama lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aubrey Doerty, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Doerty's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Hannah Johnson was another key player, putting up 15 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Kalama smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Kalama's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Seton Catholic, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kalama will face off against La Center at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kalama is facing La Center at the right time seeing as La Center is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Seton Catholic has already played their next game (against Stevenson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
