Soccer Game Preview: Rutland vs. South Burlington

The Rutland Raiders will square off against the South Burlington Wolves on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Rutland is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Brattleboro get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. Rutland might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Burlington). Everything went their way against Spaulding on Tuesday as they made off with a 13-0 win. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for South Burlington considering their one-goal performance the match before.

South Burlington has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 34 goals over those 11 contests. As for Rutland, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.

Rutland suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to South Burlington in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
