Softball Game Preview: Freeburg Midgets vs. Newton Eagles

Freeburg has gone a perfect 3-0 against Newton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Midgets are taking a road trip to square off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Newton will be up against a hot Freeburg squad: the team just extended their winning streak to eight. The Midgets didn't even let Salem on the board on Wednesday, marking the Midgets' second-straight 10-0 shutout.

Paris typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Newton proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Tigers 10-4. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

Jorjia Reich was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had over her last ten games. Izzy Meinhart was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Newton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paris only posted an OBP of .321.

Freeburg's record now sits at 16-5. As for Newton, their record is now 11-9.

Freeburg skirted past Newton 2-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Midgets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
