Basketball Recap: Hanalani Skates Past Mid-Pacific Institute with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Hanalani's strategy against Mid-Pacific Institute on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hanalani Royals blew the Mid-Pacific Institute Owls out of the water with a 51-13 final score. The Royals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Hanalani had a senior duo take command as Piha Akiona almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards and Ellana Klemp went 7 of 12 on her way to 16 points. The contest was Klemp's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaenie Sniffen, who posted eight points.

Hanalani smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Hanalani pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.3 points per game. As for Mid-Pacific Institute, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Coincidentally, Hanalani and Mid-Pacific Institute will both be playing University Laboratory School the next time they take the court. Hanalani will host University Laboratory School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, while Mid-Pacific Institute will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
