Baseball Game Preview: Wagener-Salley War Eagles vs. Swansea Tigers

Wagener-Salley hasn't had much luck against Swansea recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wagener-Salley War Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Swansea Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Wagener-Salley has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Wagener-Salley managed to slip by Horse Creek Academy the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Wagener-Salley might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-1 to Horse Creek Academy, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The War Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Swansea, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They walked away with a 12-7 win over Pelion on Wednesday. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-6), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The team relied heavily on Kreaton Steppe, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Jacob Harper was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Steppe wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Swansea lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Swansea's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 13.5 runs. As for Wagener-Salley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Wagener-Salley might still be hurting after the 17-3 loss they got from Swansea when the teams last played back in February. Can Wagener-Salley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
