O Basil spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on J Booth, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of V Oberkorn, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Little Miami never let their opponents score on Friday. They came out on top against Lakota East by a score of 5-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
The result came thanks to Faith Thompson's shutout, as she gave up just three hits.
At the plate, Bailey Thieme was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Ella Cook was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
St. Ursula Academy's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Little Miami, their win bumped their record up to 18-8.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Ursula Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Little Miami struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Ursula Academy suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Little Miami in their previous matchup back in April of 2015. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
