Football Recap: Hopewell Starts Season with Victory Against Riverside

Hopewell gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They breezed past the Riverside Panthers to the tune of 56-0. That's more bragging rights for the Vikings, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Hopewell was led to victory by James Armstrong and Nasir Wade. Armstrong threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes, while Wade gained 134 total yards and two touchdowns.

Hopewell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 212 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 157 rushing yards in four consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hopewell will host New Castle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Riverside, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on New Brighton at 7:00 p.m. on September 19.
