Preview: Steward Spartans vs. Norfolk Christian Ambassadors
The Steward Spartans will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Norfolk Christian Ambassadors at 2:30 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
In what's become a running theme this season, Steward gave their fans yet another huge victory last Friday. They blew past St. Catherine's, posting a 53-24 victory at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Steward has posted yet this season.
Steward relied on the efforts of Ava Johnson, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Sanai Green, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. Green continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Tori West was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Norfolk Christian entered their tilt with Flint Hill with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Norfolk Christian took down Flint Hill 59-40 on Saturday.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Justice Brown-Jones and Raigan Mccalla. Brown-Jones had a great game and scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Meanwhile, Mccalla was balling out in the loss, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Steward's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Norfolk Christian, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Steward hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 51.5 points per game. However, it's not like Norfolk Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 57.1 points per game. The only thing between Steward and another offensive beatdown is Norfolk Christian. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Steward came out on top in a nail-biter against Norfolk Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2023, sneaking past 49-47. Does Steward have another victory up their sleeve, or will Norfolk Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
