Softball Recap: Vancleave Takes a Loss

Vancleave suffered their closest loss since April 27, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of the West Harrison Hurricanes by a score of 6-4. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Hurricanes from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Brooklyn Howard put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Howard was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she's launched this season.

In other batting news, Eden Coursey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Carly Wyatt was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Even though they lost, Vancleave hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in 16 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Vancleave now has a losing record of 2-3. As for West Harrison, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Vancleave didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-1 loss against Gulfport on the 18th. As for West Harrison, they will take on Vancleave at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
