Football Recap: Northern Guilford Nighthawks vs. Grimsley Whirlies
It was fun while it lasted, but Northern Guilford's undefeated season came to an end after nine games on Friday. They were dealt a 42-14 loss at the hands of the Grimsley Whirlies. The loss put an end to the Nighthawks' undefeated start to the season.
Northern Guilford lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaxson Kemp, who threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 33 yards. Christopher Morrison Jr was Kemp's top target, picking up 93 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Mitchell Summers was his usual excellent self, rushing for 211 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry for Grimsley. That's the most rushing yards Summers has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Faizon Brandon, who threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes.
Having lost for the first time this season, Northern Guilford fell to 9-1. As for Grimsley, they pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
As of now, neither Northern Guilford nor Grimsley have any future games scheduled.
