Football Game Preview: Wren Hurricanes vs. Southside Tigers + How To Watch

Wren is a perfect 3-0 against Southside since October of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Hurricanes are taking a road trip to take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Wren knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Southside likes a good challenge.

If Wren beats Southside with 45 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Hurricanes took down Laurens 45-28 on Friday. Given the Hurricanes' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Raiders are ranked 135th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wren got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Owings out in front who threw for 154 yards and three TDs. What's more, Owings racked up 21 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in August. Another pass catcher making a difference was Carson Bryant, who gained 117 total yards and a touchdown.

Wren was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 381 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Southside fell victim to Emerald and their airtight defense on Friday. They had to suffer through a 55-0 loss at the hands of the Vikings. The Tigers have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Wren's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Southside, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Everything came up roses for Wren against Southside when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 63-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hurricanes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
