Baseball Game Preview: Newberg Tigers vs. Sherwood Bowmen

For the second straight game, Newberg will face off against Sherwood. The Tigers will welcome the Bowmen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Newberg 3.9, Sherwood 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Newberg is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Sherwood just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Bowmen by a score of 7-6.

For Sherwood's part, Grady Farrar looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Farrar has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Gavyn Murphy was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Connor Parry, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Sherwood pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Newberg, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Newberg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sherwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts.
