Baseball Game Preview: Barstow Aztecs vs. Apple Valley Sun Devils

The Barstow Aztecs will face off against the Apple Valley Sun Devils at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Barstow will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Barstow barely beat Silver Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went Barstow's way against Silver Valley on Friday as Barstow made off with a 10-2 win. The match marked the Aztecs' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Barstow's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Santiago Lopez, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, Lopez posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Apple Valley posted their closest victory since February 19th on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Granite Hills 3-1. The Sun Devils haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Ethan Yazzie looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched.

Barstow's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Apple Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.

Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Barstow has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Apple Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
