Softball Game Preview: Waltonville Spartans vs. Nashville Hornets

The Waltonville Spartans will challenge the Nashville Hornets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Waltonville has eight straight victories, Nashville has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Waltonville's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Elverado 10-0. Considering the Spartans have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Nashville came up short against Pinckneyville on Thursday, falling 14-3.

Waltonville's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Nashville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-15.

Everything went Waltonville's way against Nashville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Waltonville made off with a 12-2 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
