Volleyball Recap: Nehae'vah Armstrong and Bre'asia Mickens Secure Win for Academy of Science and Innovation + How To Watch

There's no place like home for Academy of Science and Innovation, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against the Sports & Medical Sciences Academy Tigers by a score of 3-1 on Monday. For the Ravens, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2022.

Academy of Science and Innovation got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 22-25, 31-29, 25-19.

Academy of Science and Innovation was led to victory by Bre'Asia Mickens and Nehae'Vah Armstrong. Mickens had eight aces and five digs, while Armstrong had 18 digs and two aces. Those 18 digs gave Armstrong a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: Academy of Science and Innovation was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Valerie Santiago, who had 13 digs and two aces. Santiago has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last three times she's played. Jayel Verddejo also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Academy of Science and Innovation's record is now 6-3. As for Sports & Medical Sciences Academy, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-4.

Academy of Science and Innovation wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Berlin on the 23rd. As for Sports & Medical Sciences Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Maloney at 6:00 p.m.
