Football Recap: St. Monica Starts Season with Victory Against Venice + How To Watch

St. Monica had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 23-16 victory over the Venice Gondoliers.

Bradley Cassier looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 42 yards and one score. 80 of Cassier's passing yards were hauled in by Anthony Mason.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something St. Monica proved: they limited Venice to a paltry 2.6 yards per carry. The Mariners didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.1.

St. Monica didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Martin Tate and Christopher Barnes.

Looking ahead, St. Monica will take on Peninsula at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Venice, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 28-17 win against Granada Hills Charter on the 28th.
