Football Recap: St. Monica Starts Season with Win Against Venice + How To Watch

St. Monica had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Venice Gondoliers by a score of 23-16 on Friday.

Bradley Cassier was the offensive standout of the contest as he threw for 269 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 42 yards and one touchdown. 80 of Cassier's passing yards were hauled in by Anthony Mason.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something St. Monica proved: they limited Venice to a paltry 2.6 yards per carry. The Mariners didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.1.

St. Monica didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Martin Tate and Christopher Barnes.

Looking ahead, St. Monica is taking a road trip to face off against Peninsula at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Venice, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Granada Hills Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
