Baseball Game Preview: Clarksville Christian Centurions vs. Zion Christian Academy Eagles

Clarksville Christian is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Saturday. They are taking a road trip to face off against the Zion Christian Academy Eagles at 12:00 p.m. Zion Christian Academy took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Clarksville Christian, who comes in off a win.

Clarksville Christian took a 19-run defeat the last time they faced off against West Creek, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Clarksville Christian sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-12 victory over West Creek on Friday.

Meanwhile, Zion Christian Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Christian Community on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Colts by a score of 8-6. The Eagles have struggled against the Colts recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Caleb Rutledge put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Carson Boylan was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Jack Handley also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Zion Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Clarksville Christian, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Clarksville Christian beat Zion Christian Academy 9-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clarksville Christian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
