Softball Recap: Shikellamy Comes Up Short

Shikellamy had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-13 to make it 12. They lost 8-0 to the Montoursville Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Braves of the 15-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

As for Montoursville, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Montoursville, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Montoursville's part, Julie Friel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Friel has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayleigh Sheleman, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Trinity Belle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Shikellamy will challenge South Williamsport at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Montoursville, they will square off against Milton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
