Baseball Game Preview: Cloverdale Eagles vs. St. Helena Saints

Cloverdale hasn't had much luck against St. Helena recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Cloverdale will challenge St. Helena at 4:00 p.m. Cloverdale has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Things were looking good for Cloverdale after they put the first points on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Santa Rosa, falling 21-8. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Coby Haug was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Damian Guerrero was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, St. Helena's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Clear Lake by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Saints have suffered since March 21, 2024.

St. Helena saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charlie Blaum, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Those two hits gave Blaum a new career-high. Caiden Taylor also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Cloverdale now has a losing record of 2-3. As for St. Helena, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cloverdale has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Helena struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Cloverdale couldn't quite get it done against St. Helena in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can Cloverdale avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
