Volleyball Game Preview: Amplus Academy Archers vs. Del Sol Dragons

Amplus Academy is 0-4 against Del Sol since March of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Archers will host the Dragons at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Amplus Academy is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They came up short against Chaparral, falling 3-0.

Amplus Academy was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-21, 25-18.

Meanwhile, Del Sol faced Liberty in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Dragons fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Del Sol couldn't get the win, but they sure gave Liberty a tough time in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 30-28, 22-25, 20-25, 15-10.

Del Sol's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 9-8. As for Amplus Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Amplus Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Del Sol struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Amplus Academy suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Del Sol in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Archers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
