Baseball Recap: Payette Has No Trouble Against Weiser

Payette lost to Weiser on Monday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Pirates blew past the Wolverines 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Gauge Christy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Payette's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Christy was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Jayden Barrera was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Damien Capener, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Payette kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.

Payette pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Weiser, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Payette will be playing in front of their home fans against Marsh Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games. As for Weiser, they will head out on the road to square off against New Plymouth at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
