Basketball Recap: Burns Starts off Right with Win over Kings Mountain

Burns gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 56-43 victory over the Kings Mountain Mountaineers. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Mountaineers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Grace Hodge was a one-woman wrecking crew as she dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. What's more, she posted five steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Laney Williams, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.

Despite the defeat, Kings Mountain saw an underclassman step up: freshman Cheyann Cannedy put up six points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Kyelah Gaines was another key player, going 6-for-14 on her way to 16 points.

Kings Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Burns will challenge Stuart W. Cramer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Bulldogs' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Kings Mountain, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Great Falls at 2:00 p.m. on the 6th.
