Basketball Game Preview: Union Cougars vs. Morgan Trojans

Union and Morgan are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Union Cougars will head out to take on the Morgan Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Union strolled past Ben Lomond with points to spare, taking the game 62-48. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

It was another big night for Wayke Olsen, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Stetson Duncan, who posted 14 points and five rebounds.

Union smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ben Lomond only pulled down four offensive boards.

Meanwhile, Morgan waltzed into their matchup on Monday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They came out on top against the Bears by a score of 61-50. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Bears are ranked 80th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Morgan's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.7 points per game. As for Union, their record now sits at 10-5.

Union didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Morgan in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 64-59 victory. Will Union repeat their success, or does Morgan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
