Baseball Recap: Bonny Eagle Gets the Win

Bonny Eagle hadn't done well against Cheverus recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Scots came out on top in a nail-biter against the Stags, sneaking past 3-2. That's more bragging rights for the Scots, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Gavin Saucier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Bonny Eagle is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Garrett Secord was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Dakota Winkler also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Bonny Eagle has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cheverus, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Bonny Eagle will host Falmouth at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Navigators will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Scots surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cheverus, they will venture away from home to take on Sanford at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
