League recap: Rock Bridge falls to upstart Helias

Helias scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Rock Bridge, 59-21. At the time, the Bruins were ranked third in the state, while the Crusaders were 50th.

BJ Shockley of Central ran for the longest rushing play in Freelance this season against El Dorado Springs last week. Shockley scampered for 60 yards on the play and finished with 104 on the day as his team beat the Bulldogs.

Isaiah Newman was a passing and rushing force as University Academy Charter topped Sacred Heart. Newman's favorite target this week was Bryon Winfrey, who caught 3 passes for 42 yards.

Monta Porter put up the best numbers through the air as the Gryphons bested the Gremlins. He finished with 4 completions for 46 yards and 1 touchdown. Porter's favorite target this week was Winfrey, who caught 3 passes for 42 yards.

On the heels of Porter and Vonzell Stamps, University Academy Charter has had great success on offense. Porter leads the league in passing with 679 yards, while Stamps has rushed for 400 yards this season. Central's Isaiah Holyfield leads the league in receiving yards with 366 on 25 catches.

The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Rockhurst and Rock Bridge. The Hawklets enters the contest ranked 12th in the state, while Justin Conyers' team ranks 11th.

Father Tolton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 22nd to 17th in the league. Earlier in the week, Father Tolton defeated Harrisburg 41-0.
