Softball Recap: Chaffey Comes Up Short

Chaffey dropped down to 7-7 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Chino Cowboys by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Chaffey saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sienna Retamoza, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Chino, they pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

On Chino's side, Sophia Perea spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. Perea has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Cardoza, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Melody Stark was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Chaffey wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-0 win against Miller on the 22nd. As for Chino, they will challenge Don Lugo at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cowboys will need to watch out since the Conquistadors have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
