Basketball Game Preview: Mankato West Scarlets vs. Mayo Spartans

The Mankato West Scarlets are taking a road trip to square off against the Mayo Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mankato West's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.

Mankato West lost 85-60 to Faribault on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Scarlets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Falcons are ranked 54th).

Meanwhile, Mayo didn't have too much trouble with Northfield on Tuesday as they won 80-66. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Mankato West has also been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Mayo, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Mankato West might still be hurting after the 72-50 loss they got from Mayo in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Mankato West avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
