Baseball Recap: South Portland Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact South Portland can now relate to. They fell just short of the Scarborough Red Storm by a score of 1-0 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Storm this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-6 last Wednesday.

Ben Morin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, South Portland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Corbin Voisine, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

South Portland's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6. As for Scarborough, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-1.

South Portland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Scarborough, they will square off against Thornton Academy on Saturday. The Red Storm's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
