Basketball Recap: Lake County Drops Season-High Score on Battle Mountain

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Moffat County, Lake County was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They had just enough and edged the Battle Mountain Huskies out 64-61. The Panthers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Lake County was led to victory by Isaiah Martinez and Jaren Peters. Martinez went 9 of 18 on his way to 27 points along with seven boards and three blocks, while Peters almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Martinez a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Ayers, who posted six points and seven steals.

Lake County was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Battle Mountain's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kitz Petrovski, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakob Methvin, who put up 13 points.

With the win, Lake County broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4. As for Battle Mountain, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Lake County and DSST: Cedar will face off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Battle Mountain, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Meeker at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
