Softball Game Preview: York Cougars vs. Lancaster Bruins

For the second straight game, York will face off against Lancaster. The Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Bruins at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. York will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.

On Tuesday, York beat Lancaster 7-4.

Peyton Brooks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alyvia Lingerfelt was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kayla Johnson, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

York hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.

York's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Lancaster, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Lancaster's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. York has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game.
