Softball Game Preview: La Pine Hawks vs. Burns Hilanders

The La Pine Hawks will challenge the Burns Hilanders at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, La Pine needed a bit of extra time to put away Creswell. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 18-17 win over the Bulldogs. The Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Jade Seymour, who went 5-for-6 with one home run, five runs, and four RBI. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Nevaeh Martinez was another key player, going 5-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

La Pine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .553. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Burns came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 15-8 victory. The Hilanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.

La Pine moved to 2-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Burns, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2-1.
