Basketball Recap: Lugoff-Elgin Takes a Loss

Lugoff-Elgin lost against Ridge View last Saturday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Lugoff-Elgin Demons were outmatched by the Ridge View Blazers and fell 75-20. While losing is never fun, the Demons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Blazers are ranked 25th).

Despite the defeat, Lugoff-Elgin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Teryn Hobson posted 12 points and four steals. That was a full 60% of Lugoff-Elgin's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Erin Manuel, who had four points.

Leading Ridge View to victory were Anasia Harvey and Reagan Ferguson. Harvey dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards, while Ferguson went 8 for 13 en route to 16 points and five steals. The game was Harvey's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Janiya Carter, who earned four points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Lugoff-Elgin has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 16 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for Ridge View, their win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-7.

Lugoff-Elgin will take on Westwood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lugoff-Elgin is facing Westwood at the right time seeing as Westwood is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ridge View, they will square off against West Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ridge View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully West Florence likes a good challenge.
