Soccer Game Preview: South Gwinnett vs. Rockdale County

South Gwinnett is 2-8 against Rockdale County since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Comets will take on the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Gwinnett has 12 straight victories, Rockdale County has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

South Gwinnett's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 2-0 win over Grayson. Given South Gwinnett's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Grayson are ranked 252nd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lauren Ward was the driving force of South Gwinnett's attack as she scored both of South Gwinnett's goals, bringing her season total up to 28 goals.

Meanwhile, Rockdale County fell victim to Archer and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They lost 7-0 to the Tigers.

South Gwinnett pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 44 goals over those seven games. As for Rockdale County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

Everything went South Gwinnett's way against Rockdale County in their previous matchup back in March, as South Gwinnett made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
